Currently the Australian MNT Assistant Coach. As such he helped Australia to a great WC2022. The team surprised many as they moved to the round of 16, narrowly losing 1-2 to Argentina who ended up WC Champions.

Rene gained world wide recognition for his ability to improve players and provide fantastic training session, during his time at Manchester United. Initially hired as Skills Development Officer for their famed Youth Academy, he quickly moved up the ladder and became the 1st Team Coach under Sir Alex Ferguson. As such ManU secured the Premier League title in 2007–08, 2008–09, 2010–11 and 2012–13; the Community Shield in 2008, 2010, and 2011, the League Cup in 2008–09 and 2009–10; the UEFA Champions League in 2007–08 and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2008.
